Students Greet Buses and Hold SMAC Rally

Students at John Tyler High School want to let fellow students know that they are ready for a change.  A new student group is forming called SMAC – Students Making A Change.  The group’s goal is to promote school pride, student success, and to make a positive change within the student body.  As a kick off event for the new student group, members plans to greet students as they are dropped off at school this morning at 8 a.m. Tuesday morning, May 13.  SMAC members will pass out buttons and display signs.  They also plan a surprise motivational display.

“My goal is for the students to feel empowered to change their school,” said club sponsor and John Tyler teacher Angie Tellman.  “They can’t wait for others to do it for them.”

SMAC will meet in a classroom at John Tyler every Friday at 8:00 a.m. for 30 minutes.  The group shares a top 10 behavior expectations list with its members that includes such goals as be positive, be on time, avoid conflict, and use good manners.  Students will also share personal success stories of how they are changing their school in a positive way.
