TISD Students Place in HOSA Competition

            Congratulations to all Tyler ISD students who recently competed in the HOSA (Health Occupation Students of America) Area Leadership Conference.  Local students competed with other students from the Dallas/East Texas area in many different healthcare related events.  HOSA is a national organization which provides a program of leadership development, motivation and recognition for secondary  and postsecondary students enrolled in Health Science Technology Education programs. There are over 90,000 members nationwide this year.

The winners from Tyler ISD are:

Dustin Dudley 1st place in Medical Terminology

The team of Lauren Callander, Daniel Hernandez and Lydia Thilia placed 1st in Biomedical Debate

The team of Adam Soloman, Jeff Starling and Shehzad Batliwala placed 3rd in Biomedical Debate

Kaitlyn Smithson 4th place in Job Seeking Skills

Kaylee Garvey 4th place in Medical Assisting

Beatriz Calvo  5th place Extemporaneous Health Poster

Kevisha Turner 5th place in Prepared Speaking

Ahmed El-Kishky  5th place Medical Math

 

The winners will be competing in April at the State HOSA conference in Austin, Texas.  If students place in the top three in Austin, they will attend the National Leadership Conference in  Dallas in June. In the past, TISD students have placed 2nd in the Nation in Biomedical Debate, and 5th in Extemporaneous Writing.

The local TISD HOSA members also hold fundraisers to contribute to local charities. So far this year members donated to and participated in the Alzheimer Walk and adopted two angels from the angel tree. This spring members will participate in the Komen Race as well as HOSA Leadership Conferences.
