TISD Participates in Job Shadow Day

What do you want to be when you grow up is one of the toughest questions facing high school students as they look toward their futures.  This week, more than 200 local high school seniors from Tyler ISD and surrounding public and private schools will have an opportunity to see careers they may be interested in pursuing after high school graduation.

On Tuesday, February 5, 2008, the Education/Human Resources Committee of the Tyler Area Chamber of Commerce is celebrating Groundhog Job Shadow Day.  This is a day dedicated to giving high school seniors from Tyler/Smith County the opportunity to be the “shadow” of someone working within a career that they have interest in. Job shadowing enables students to shadow a workplace mentor as he or she goes through a normal day on the job, providing an up close look at how the skills learned in school are put into action in the workplace.

Groundhog Job Shadow Day will begin with students arriving at the business location at 8:00 a.m. or the regular opening time of the business. After a morning of job shadowing, students and their business partners are invited to a hosted luncheon at 12:00 noon at the Tyler Junior College – West Campus (RTDC). Chad Foster, one of America’s most sought after motivational speakers and best selling author, will be the guest speaker.  After lunch, business partners and shadows will resume their shadowing activities.
