TISD Continues Investigation into Student Attack At approximately 4:05 p.m., 10 minutes after dismissal of school, a female approached a male in the bus loop area of Robert E. Lee High School. The female produced a small pocket knife with a 2 1/2 inch blade and stabbed the male one time in the left abdomen area. The male student ran from the scene. The female began to run from the scene. She was immediately apprehended by administrators. Principal Roger McAdoo attempted to detain the female. The female would not stop. The principal grabbed the female and both fell to the ground. The principal received a laceration to his right hand. The female was taken into custody by Tyler ISD Police. She was charged with two counts of aggravated assault, one against the male, the other against Principal McAdoo. They are both felony charges. The female was transported to the Smith County Jail and booked in without incident.
The male student was transported to a local emergency room via
ambulance. The principal was treated for the laceration. In an effort to communicate this incident to the parents of Robert E. Lee High school students, Principal McAdoo sent an email to parents with the following information:
Just after the 3:55 bell rang on Wednesday there was an isolated incident involving a former Robert E. Lee student. The 17-year old former female student came on campus. Her purpose was to confront one of our male students. She intentionally walked over to him and stabbed him with a small pocket knife. After this incident she was immediately apprehended by administrators and campus officers. I was unintentionally grazed by the knife while restraining her, but was not hurt. The male student was able to walk down to the field house to receive treatment and was later taken to ETMC in an ambulance. The student is expected to fully recover and was in good spirits as he left the school yesterday. Please be assured that we are doing everything possible to keep our students safe.
While this is an isolated event we take the safety and security of our students and staff very seriously. Campus administrators are trained on a regular basis in handling emergency situations.
