National Science Academy Recognizes Tyler ISD Teacher

Congratulations to Tamika Ervin, a science teacher at Boulter Middle School, for being accepted into the New Science Teacher Academy as an Amgen Associate Fellow by the National Science Teachers Association (NSTA) and the Amgen Foundation.

Ervin was among 100 associate fellows selected from a nation-wide pool of nearly 800 applicants. The program and its resources will be highly beneficial to both Ervin and the school district.

Ervin is looking forward to networking with other middle school science teachers in the nation.  “I am very excited to be selected into this program and feel honored to be able to represent Tyler ISD,” said Ervin.

As an Associate Fellow in the NSTA, Ervin will be part of a year-long immersion in a host of science-related activities and professional development opportunities. In addition, Ervin will receive a comprehensive NSTA membership package and financial support to attend and participate in NSTA’s National Conference on Science Education in Boston, Massachusetts in the spring.

The NSTA New Science Teacher Academy, co-founded by the Amgen Foundation with a three-year, $3 million grant, is a professional development initiative created to help strengthen quality science teaching, enhance teacher confidence and classroom excellence, and improve teacher content knowledge. The Academy will initially support up to 200 science teachers across the nation each year.
