TISD Foundation Hosts Red Carpet Event

The Tyler ISD Foundation is hosting “A Night of Shining Stars” for the top ranking graduates of both Tyler ISD high schools, Monday, May 21st, 7:00 p.m. at the Ornelas Activity Center.

The celebration will be the first of its kind for Robert E. Lee High School and John Tyler High School graduating seniors, as graduates of both high schools are honored at the same event.  The theme of “A Night of Shining Stars,” gives students the opportunity to be treated as celebrities for their academic accomplishments.  Students will enter the event on a red carpet surrounded by paparazzi treating these guests as superstars.   They will also receive a complimentary gift bag filled with items contributed from area donors.

“We plan to treat these top students like celebrities—and actually they should be the role models for young people today.  They have made significant achievements in their lives and we honor them, their families, and the teachers who helped them along the way,” said Larry Goddard, Executive Director of the Tyler ISD Foundation.

Students have been asked to invite the teacher who most influenced their lives while at Tyler ISD.  The teachers, who range from elementary to high school levels, will be honored.  Parents and family members of the students will also be attending.

“This event will bring together all of us within Tyler ISD to celebrate the achievements of the top ranking students at both our high schools,” said Gary Mooring, Tyler ISD Interim Superintendent.  “This event is unique in that each student will provide a testimony and thank you to the teacher who made the most positive impact on their educational lives,” said Mooring.

The Foundation will also announce the two recipients of the Dr. Bryan C. Jack Memorial Scholarship and the Joseph Maland Memorial Scholarship.  The Night of Shining Stars committee is Mary Lynn Smith, Chair; Louise Arnold; Tab Beall; Beth Guinn; and Leann Murphy.
