News Release Situation at Tyler ISD High School Under Investigation At approximately 3 p.m. yesterday, there was a situation on the John Tyler High School campus where a scene was created when words were passed between students. A student was hit and another was pushed. There were no injuries that we were made aware of.
When the disturbance started, by-standing students followed the commotion through the halls. The crowd was dispersed by TISD staff. Teachers were told not to allow any students out of class, but the campus was not in lockdown.
John Tyler Principal, Dr. Michael McFarland, has met with the parents of the students who were involved and they were informed of the incident.
John Tyler High School has six assigned security officers to its campus, and has assigned additional security officers to address any safety issues that may arise.
Dr. McFarland received a parent call concerned that this is a racial incident and he is investigating this concern.
There has been no other disturbances this week.
