Press Release TISD Launches New Math/Reading Software
Exciting news for Tyler ISD! Students in kindergarten through grade eight now have access to math and reading programs both at school and at home through the Internet. Riverdeep Destination Math, Destination Math Spanish and Destination Reading gives students additional learning opportunities to practice or review math and reading skills taught at school. Destination Math and Reading are highly interactive, with full animation and audio support for each lesson in every unit. Parents can also get involved with their child’s education by using the new software to help their child gain the knowledge and confidence needed to be successful in today’s changing times. The Destination website is password protected for students and parents. The website can be accessed by visiting the Tyler ISD home page at http://www.tylerisd.org and click on the Parents/Students link and then click on Destination Success from the drop-down menu.
For more detailed information, parents may access the Tyler ISD Destination Parent Resource website at http://www.tylerisd.org/departments/curriculum/destination.htm
The Destination Math lessons capture and hold the student’s interest by demonstrating how mathematical issues arise out of real-life situations. Destination Math’s presentation of mathematics within each course takes full advantage of the dynamic and interactive capabilities of the Web. It addresses number concepts and skills, operations with numbers, geometry, data analysis, and algebraic thinking. Destination Math’s print activities provide additional practice opportunities for students.
Destination Reading provides a wide assortment of age-appropriate fiction and non-fiction text genres and was rated “tops” by the Florida Center for Reading Research for the comprehensive way it addresses phonemic awareness, phonics, vocabulary development, fluency, and comprehension. It offers a wealth of activities, songs, and word games that keep children motivated, on-task, and eager to return to the program each day. Destination Reading is appropriate for K-12 beginning and intermediate level Limited English Proficient (LEP) students. The reading lessons include a careful sequencing of reading and writing development so that each new skill builds upon prior learning. ### |
