News Release TXU ELECTRIC DELIVERY AWARDS TYLER ISD FOR SAVING ENERGY Tyler ISD has earned an incentive of $39,135 from TXU Electric Delivery for energy efficient building upgrades implemented in 2006 through the Schools Conserving Resources (SCORE) Program. The SCORE Program is a pilot program being sponsored by TXU Electric Delivery for select school districts to help improve energy efficiency and reduce schools’ energy operating costs. CLEAResult Consulting is implementing the program for TXU Electric Delivery. Incentives are paid by TXU Electric Delivery at the rate of $150 per peak kilowatt of energy demand saved. The Public Utility Commission of Texas provides the mechanism for calculating energy savings achieved. The district is awarded an incentive check when projects are finished and the new equipment is inspected. “The incentives were an encouraging factor but the primary motivation for our effort is the money we will be saving on future utility bills,” said Rick Hensley , Tyler ISD Supervisor of Maintenance. Tyler ISD joined the SCORE Program in February 2006. Since then, the district has continued its committed efforts to build efficient new schools and upgrade older, less efficient equipment. The projects Tyler ISD submitted into the Program were Bell, Ramey, and Jack elementary schools, plus a lighting project at Hogg Middle School. Tyler ISD’s Facilities Director, Tim Loper, said, “The SCORE Program has helped our district save money and we have been able to improve our student’s learning environments. We upgraded the gym lighting at Hogg Middle School to improve the quality of light, save energy and decrease utility costs. “ The SCORE Program has helped the district focus on what it can do to use energy most efficiently. In order to get projects funded and earn the incentives, the program involved administrators at all levels in the decision making process. The Program focuses on communicating that sometimes spending a small amount more in the design and construction of a school or equipment upgrade can lead to much better energy performance for years to come. “TXU Electric Delivery is proud to sponsor a program that gives back to the community and conserves energy at the same time,” said Jeff Reed, SCORE program manager, TXU Electric Delivery. “We identified a real need for an energy efficiency program that specifically targets schools, especially as school budgets are spread thinner.” TXU Electric Delivery, the regulated transmission and distribution subsidiary of TXU Corp., delivers power to approximately three million homes and businesses in Texas through more than 114,000 miles of transmission and distribution lines.
