TISD Senior Selected as Coca Cola Semifinalist

Tyler ISD is proud to announce that a student at John Tyler High School, senior, Kiera Wade,  has been selected as a Coca Cola Scholars semi-finalist.  Coca Cola Scholars are awarded based on character, personal merit and commitment.  Merit is demonstrated through leadership in school, civic, and extra curricular activities, academic achievement and motivation to serve and succeed.

The Coca-Cola Scholars Program is a merit-based scholarship awarded to 250 high school seniors each year. In order to be eligible for a Coca-Cola Scholarship, you must be:

·               a current high school or home-school senior anticipating graduation from a school or program in the United States during the academic year in which application is made;

·               a U.S. Citizen; U.S. National; U.S. Permanent Resident; Temporary Resident (legalization program); Refugee; Asylee; Cuban-Haitian Entrant; or Humanitarian Parolee;

·               planning to pursue a degree at an accredited U.S. post-secondary institution;

·               carrying a minimum 3.00 GPA at the end of your junior year of high school

Seniors at secondary schools throughout the United States who meet the eligibility requirements may apply for one of 250 four-year merit-based scholarships.  Fifty of these awards are four-year $20,000 scholarships ($5,000 per year for four years), while 200 are designated as four-year $10,000 scholarships ($2,500 per year for four years).

Congratulations and good luck to Kiera in the next phase of the selection process.  Semifinalists are notified in mid-December and are required to complete an additional application. Following the January deadline, the Program Review Committee selects 250 finalists.
