Congratulations to Randy Fleet, a coach at Moore MST
Middle School, for being recognized as the Middle
School Basketball Coach of the Year through the
Texas Association of Basketball Coaches. Fleet is
among only 14 coaches from the state of Texas
selected for this honor.
Congratulations to Holly Chilek, a teacher at Bonner
Elementary School, for being selected to attend an
esteemed academy in New Jersey. Holly is among 200
teachers selected from around the country to
participate in the 2009 Mickelson ExxonMobil
Teachers Academy in Jersey City, New Jersey, in
July. Chilek was nominated by two of her former
students. The Mickelson ExxonMobil Teachers Academy
is a one-week all-expense paid intensive
professional development program for third through
fifth grade teachers. The Academy offers a five-day
program designed to provide teachers with the
knowledge and skills necessary to motivate students
to pursue careers in science and math.
Congratulations to John Tyler High School for
becoming the first high school in East Texas to
donate more than 200 units of blood during one blood
drive. John Tyler High School's Health Occupations
Students of America (HOSA) organization and Student
Congress organized the blood drive. Nita Maxwell,
HOSA teacher, and Kenya Symonette, Student Congress
sponsor, both worked with the students to make the
blood drive a success. In all, John Tyler High
School collected 238 units of blood for the Carter
Blood Care.
Congratulations to John Tyler High School for
receiving Project Lead the Way Certification for
Quality of their Pre-Engineering Program. Project
Lead the Way has certified that John Tyler's Pre-
Engineering and Engineering Technology Program has
met the stringent, national standards of quality set
by Project Lead the Way. John Tyler has joined an
elite group of nationally recognized high schools
that provides a cutting edge pre-engineering
curriculum for their students. Thank you to John
Tyler teacher Jim Bybee for overseeing this program.

acceptance of the following donations totaling $
11,500 from football moms for Robert E. Lee High
School.
Board Approves Malicious Call Tracing Software
Upgrade
The Board of Trustees approved the purchase of
an upgraded call tracing system supplied by AT&T (VeraSMART
CDR) at a cost of $34,510.35. Funding for the
project will come from designated fund balance. This
upgraded call tracing system will provide
centralized tracing and reporting at all district
facilities.
Board Approves Replacement Scoreboard at Trinity
Mother Frances Rose Stadium
The Board of Trustees approved entering a contract
with Olen Williams, Inc. in the amount of $657,801.
Olen Williams, Inc. is the only vendor that
submitted a proposal. This amount includes
performance bond, electrical upgrades, remodeling
and a $20,000 contingency. Funding will come from
Fund Balance with total reimbursement through
advertising revenues.
The current Rose Stadium scoreboard has been in
service since 1984. Having exceeded its life cycle,
replacement parts are obsolete as TISD continues to
maintain the scoreboard's operation. An agreement
with Titus Sports Marketing will allow us to repay
TISD through advertising and revenue accounts. The
new scoreboard will be paid in full within the next
ten (10) years at no cost to taxpayers.
Board Approves Exterior Elevations and Floor
Plans for Griffin Elementary School
The Board of Trustees approved initial design,
elevations and styles for Griffin Elementary School.
Initially, the new Griffin Elementary School was to
be a prototype of an existing campus. With the new
site location for the new Griffin Elementary School
to be on the same property as Dogan Middle School,
the necessity of new plans and elevations were
mandated. Kent Harris and Mike Craig, with Eubanks
Harris Roberts Craig Architects, presented the
proposed new design they have prepared with TISD
Administration representatives. The architects and
the District have prepared and coordinated documents
of the exterior elevations and floor plans of the
new Griffin Elementary School. Room counts,
functions and adjacencies have been discussed. |
