Newly Appointed Trustee Takes Office

January 12, 2009 The oath of office was administered to Mr. Eleno Licea, Tyler ISD Board of Trustee for Single Member District 1 at the Board of Trustees Special Meeting held on Monday, January 12, at the school district's Administrative Office. Mr. Licea replaced Mr. Gene Shull, who resigned from his position at the December regularly scheduled board meeting because he is moving out of District 1.

"We're excited that Mr. Licea has expressed interest in public education and Tyler ISD," said Ron Vickery, President Tyler ISD Board of Trustees. "We will miss Mr. Shull in his official capacity as a trustee, but I know he will continue to support our efforts. We're excited Mr. Licea will join our board membership team and look forward to a great partnership."

After Mr. Licea was welcomed to his new role by fellow board members, he took his seat on the board and participated in the District's Special Meeting.

"It's an honor to be on the Board," said Licea. "I am a product of public education and this is an opportunity to represent my district and give back to the community."

The newly appointed trustee will fill the position for another four months. The seat will then be placed on the May 9, 2009 general election ballot to fill the unexpired term, which expires in May, 2010.
