SCHOOL BOARD ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS

According to the Texas Education Code, to be eligible to be a candidate for a public elective office in the state, a person must:

  • be a U.S. citizen;

  • be 18 years of age or older on the date of the appointment;

  • have not been determined mentally incompetent by a final judgment or court;

  • have not been finally convicted of a felony from which the person has not been pardoned or otherwise released from the resulting disabilities;

  • have resided continuously in the state for 12 months and in the territory from which the office is elected for six months;

  • satisfy any other eligibility requirements prescribed by law for the office;

  • be a qualified voter.

Those interested in the position may obtain an application by visiting the superintendent's office at the TISD Administration Building, 1319 New Sunnybrook Drive, by calling the office at 903.262.1001 or by contacting Ms. Orr by e-mail at gina.orr@tylerisd.org.

A person applying must live in District 4 to be eligible for the office. District 4 is in the western portion of TISD. Click here for a map of the district.
