Board Notes A Summary of the August 20, 2009, Tyler ISD Board of Trustees Meeting
Board Authorizes and Accepts Donation The Board of Trustees authorized and approved the acceptance of a donation totaling $ 8,247 through the Tyler ISD Foundation from the Cooperative Teachers Credit Union for Tyler ISD Convocation.
Board Approves Alarm and Intrusion Control Contract for Schools Under Construction The Board of Trustees approved a contract with Henry Bros. Electronics, Inc. in the amount of $254,824.61 to provide alarm, intrusion control, and video surveillance systems for the Clarkston, Orr, Griffin, Woods and Jones/Boshears elementary campuses. The system requested was one compatible with the security needs of all existing campuses. The desired system was also one that could be monitored and administered from a central location as well as the campus.
Board Approves Student Code of Conduct for the 2009-2010 School Year The Board of Trustees approved the 2009-2010 Student Code of Conduct. The TISD Student Code of Conduct is revised annually with input from campus staff members, administrators, and parents. Model information is provided by the Texas Association of School Board policy service. The Code of Conduct is made available to parents in both English and Spanish, and can be accessed at each school’s office, on the District’s website at www.tylerisd.org, and at the District’s administration office.
Board Approves MStar Grant – Texas Instruments (TI) Math Program The Board of Trustees approved the contract with Texas Instruments for $88,000 for the Math Forward program at Hogg and Dogan Middle Schools for the 2009-2011 school years along with the student and teacher equipment and software costs. The grant funding of $117,000 is for a two year period and will cover the cost of the training and contract with Texas Instruments, along with the materials, student calculators, and teacher equipment and software needed for implementation of the program. Students in the MathForward classes will be provided with two consecutive periods of mathematics per day. This extended learning time is used to enhance students’ abilities to solve problems using research-based teaching methods.
Facilities Department Provides Update on School Construction Projects Director of Facilities, Tim Loper, and Construction Project Manager, Monte Robinette, provided the Board of Trustees an update on the progress of the school construction projects.
Orr Elementary School 2nd Floor slabs are complete and structural steel erection continues in two areas. The framing for drywall has started; roof joists and deck are being installed. The next month’s progress will be the completion of steel erection and roof deck. Continue framing and drywall for exterior and interior walls. Begin installation of fire sprinklers, ductwork, cable trays, roofing, electrical, and plumbing rough-in for the interior of the building.
Clarkston Elementary School Roofing installation in one area is complete. Brick work is continuing in Court Yard area. Ductwork and all above ceiling work is nearing completion in Area A. Framing for interior and exterior walls is progressing well and one area is almost complete. Structural steel erection should be complete this month. Progress for the next month will be the completion of structural steel erection. Continuation of wall framing, roofing at Cafeteria and Gym, masonry along with mechanical, electrical, plumbing and technology rough-in. Start installation of Drywall in two areas.
Woods Elementary School Structural steel erection is continuing and 2nd floor decking is being installed. Final building slab pour was made on 8-12-09. First 2nd floor slab pour is scheduled for week of 8-17-09. Framing for exterior walls has started. The next month’s progress will be the completion of 2nd floor concrete slabs and completion of steel erection, installation of roof joists and deck, start framing interior walls, begin installation of fire sprinklers, ductwork, cable trays, electrical, and plumbing rough-in for the interior of the building.
Jones/Boshears School 2nd floor slab for two areas is complete. Framing for drywall is underway in those areas. Steel Erection at Area C is complete and has started in Area D. Masonry walls are complete at Gym. Metal building for Arena has been delivered to site, erection is underway. The first section of the Loop Road was poured on 8-12-09. Slab for Area B is scheduled to be poured on 8-20-09. The next month’s progress will be the completion of the Arena structure and steel erection in Area C. Start steel erection in Area D and continue placing concrete on the loop road. Continuation the above ceiling rough-in for areas E & F. Roofing started at Areas E & F.
Griffin Elementary The Contract for the new Athletic Field on the site of the Boys & Girls Club and the creation of a play field on the Dogan campus has been approved by the Board. 95% plans for the new School have been received. Final plans for bidding are due on or before 9-14-09.
