A Summary of the September 20, 2007 Tyler ISD Board of Trustees Meeting

 

Board Does Not Appoint District 4 Trustee

The Board of Trustees unanimously approved the decision to not appoint the Board of Trustee Single Member District 4 replacement.  The Board of Trustees decided to fill the position by election at the scheduled election time in May, 2008.

 

Board Authorizes and Accepts Donations

The Board of Trustees authorized and approved the acceptance of the following donations totaling $38,187.00:

 

$ 15,000.00 from Pamela D. Everhart to John Tyler High School College & Career Center in honor of former principal Mrs. Joan Brooks.

 

$ 23,187.00 from Tyler ISD Foundation to Nine Tyler ISD Campuses for individual and team grants.

 

Board Approves Destination Reading Software Purchase

The Board of Trustees unanimously approved the Destination Reading web-based software package in the amount of $298,000 to be paid to assist teachers in providing individual and small group instruction in order to increase student achievement in reading.

 

Superintendent Provides Update on Planning Phase II Bond

Tyler ISD Superintendent Randy Reid provided the Board of Trustees an update on planning phase II of the bond program.  He explained the next step to continue the rebuilding and updating of our facilities is to look at the new demographers report and gather information to prepare for what the next phase of the bond may hold.

 

Facilities Department Provides Update on School Construction Projects

Project Manager Randy Rayford, with The Staubach Company, provided the Board of Trustees an update on the progress of the school construction projects. 

 

Peete Elementary is the only school under construction at this time.  Peete is complete in several areas including steel, ductwork, and roofing.  Drywall framing and sheetrock will continue as well as rough-in of electrical, plumbing, fire sprinkler system.  Exterior elements such as brickwork, metal roofing and plaster framing will continue.   Painting, ceramic tile and ceiling grid work is under way.  Sitework for paving and sidewalks is also under way.  Although a few of the finished trades are behind, some are working overtime, at their expense, to catch up.  Denson Construction will finish November 30th as planned.

 

Austin, Bonner, and Douglas elementary schools are in the final review process and will be complete by September 30.

 

The seven schools, as a whole, are under budget for the 2004 Bond Program.
