A Summary of the July 19, 2007 Tyler ISD Board of Trustees Meeting

Board Authorizes and Accepts Donations
The Board of Trustees authorized and approved the
acceptance of the following donations totaling $50,000:
$ 25,000.00 from Anonymous Donor to Robert E. Lee High
School for technology;
$ 25,000.00 from Anonymous Donor to Robert E. Lee High
School for technology.
Board Approves Amended 2007-2008 Calendar
The Board of Trustees unanimously approved the amended
2007-2008 calendar. The Texas Education Agency has revised the testing calendar for the 2007-2008
and moved the test dates by one to two weeks throughout
the year. The impact
of the shift of dates to the week of April 29th – May 2
causes the need to move
the scheduled staff development day for April 28th to
Monday, May 5th to allow for
an additional day of instruction before testing.
Board Approves Expenditures for the Visual and Performing Arts Program
The Board of Trustees approved the purchase of pianos,
chairs, and risers at various locations in Tyler ISD in the amount of $64,500. The Visual and Performing Arts Department will distribute the funds as
follows:
$ 20,000 to assist with 2007 Band and Orchestra Summer
Repairs
$ 29,030 to begin updating pianos on campuses
$ 6,470 for a Reception Desk at Caldwell Auditorium
$ 9,000 to help with purchase of chairs for Robert E.
Lee Choir, and
chairs/risers for Stewart Middle School
Facilities Department Provides Update on School Construction Projects
Project Manager Randy Rayford, with The Staubach Company, provided the Board of
Trustees an update on the progress of the school construction projects.
Four elementary schools are under construction at this time (Austin, Bonner, Douglas
and Peete):
Plans for all administration offices at Austin, Bonner, and Douglas are planned to be
up and running the week of July 23.
At all three locations, the punch out of the buildings continue. The exterior work,
including paving, courtyard irrigation, landscaping, fencing and related items will continue. The exterior work is approximately five to six weeks behind
schedule because of the weather and some of the exterior may not be ready for the ribbon cutting ceremonies.
Peete has struggled because of the rain and exterior progress has been slow.
However,
structural steel erection is 95% complete; drywall framing is 85% complete; and brick
work is approximately 60% complete. The Peete building is approximately one week behind schedule and the site work is approximately three weeks behind
schedule. With clear weather, the site work will be back on schedule in approximately 30 days.
