A Summary of the May 17, 2007 Tyler ISD Board of Trustees Meeting

 

Board Authorizes and Approves Director of Elementary

Education

The Board of Trustees approved Darlene J Marshall, a Texas educator with more than 25 years of experience, to the leadership role of Director of Elementary Education.  In this position, she will oversee the operations of the elementary schools and supervise elementary principals.  Ms. Marshall officially begins her duties July 1.

 

 

 

Board Authorizes and Approves John Tyler Principal

The Board of Trustees approved Vanessa Choice, an East Texas educator for more than 20 years of experience, as the new principal for John Tyler High School.  Ms. Choice previously served as principal of Boulter Middle School.  She takes over the principal position July 1.

 

 

 

Board Accepts Resignation of Interim Superintendent

The Board of Trustees accepted the resignation of Gary Mooring, Interim Superintendent, and previously Deputy Superintendent.  The resignation will be effective June 30, 2007.

 

 

Board Authorizes and Accepts Donations

The Board of Trustees authorized and approved the acceptance of donations from the Tyler ISD Foundation.  The donations include the following:

 

$2,160 from Tyler ISD Foundation to Jack Elementary in memory of Sue Ellen Keuck for a Texas  learning center in the Jack Elementary courtyard,

$5,000 from Tyler ISD Foundation to the Advanced Placement Incentive Program, and

$75,000 Vernon E. Faulconer to support the implementation of the AVID program in all TISD secondary schools.

 

The Board of Trustees authorized and approved the acceptance of $9,500 from Andy Woods PTA to Andy Woods Elementary for the purchase of playground equipment

 

 

Facilities Department Provides Update on School Construction Projects

Project Manager Randy Rayford, with The Staubach Company, provided the Board of Trustees an update on the progress of the school construction projects. 

Four elementary schools are under construction at this time (Austin, Bonner, Douglas and Peete):

Austin is on schedule and on budget,

Bonner is on schedule and on budget,

Douglas is ahead of schedule and under budget,

All three schools are scheduled to be complete June 30 with landscaping to be completed shortly after.

All three campuses are looking for move-in dates in July.

 

Peete has been delayed by rain for approximately two weeks.  Denson Construction has a recovery plan in place and will make up the time over the next forty five days.  Peete is on budget.
