Summary of the December 14, 2006 Tyler ISD Board of Trustees Meeting
Board Recognizes
Superintendent’s Years of Service
The Board of Trustees recognized the years of service of
Superintendent, Dr. David Simmons, to Tyler ISD. Board President, Andy Bergfeld, presented Simmons with a plaque to commemorate his dedication to the
students of Tyler ISD.
Board Approves Playground
Equipment
The Board of Trustees approved the gift from the Birdwell
PTA and East Texas Communities Foundation (ETCF) to establish age appropriate playground areas for the campus. Two playground systems, each for specific
age groups, will be purchased
including installation and area preparation. Benches and
trash containers will
complete the play/exercise area. The cost of the total
project is $60,171.90.
Board Approves Additional Campus
Security Improvements
The Board of Trustees approved accepting the increase of
$219,760.00 from the funds designated for security to further complete the additional security and access control measures at the elementary level.
Installation of access control, additional fencing and glass wall systems will give our campuses better control of visitors and deliveries at the campus
level.
Board Approves School Calendar
The administration recommends that the Tyler ISD
School Board adopt calendar option “A” as the 2007-08 school calendar. The calendar will provide the best environment for student academic success with the
opportunity for periodic breaks to keep staff and student morale as high as possible for optimum teaching and learning throughout the school year.
Facilities Department Provides
Update on School Construction Projects
Project Manager, Randy Rayford, and Senior Vice
President, Tommy Parrett with The Staubach Company, provided the Board of Trustees an update on the progress of the elementary schools under construction
at this time:
Austin, Bonner and Douglas elementary schools are on
schedule and on budget.
Bryan C. Jack Elementary is under budget, with current
work on the punch list, and the project is scheduled to be complete in January, 2007.
At the Peete Elementary site, the clearing of trees will
continue and dirt work will commence. The Peete project is scheduled to be completed November, 2007. |
