Board Recognizes Superintendent’s Years of Service

The Board of Trustees recognized the years of service of Superintendent, Dr. David Simmons, to Tyler ISD.  Board President, Andy Bergfeld, presented Simmons with a plaque to commemorate his dedication to the students of Tyler ISD.

Board Approves Playground Equipment

The Board of Trustees approved the gift from the Birdwell PTA and East Texas Communities Foundation (ETCF) to establish age appropriate playground areas for the campus.  Two playground systems, each for specific age groups, will be purchased

including installation and area preparation. Benches and trash containers will

complete the play/exercise area.  The cost of the total project is $60,171.90.

Board Approves Additional Campus Security Improvements

The Board of Trustees approved accepting the increase of $219,760.00 from the funds designated for security to further complete the additional security and access control measures at the elementary level.  Installation of access control, additional fencing and glass wall systems will give our campuses better control of visitors and deliveries at the campus level.

Board Approves School Calendar

The administration recommends that the Tyler ISD School Board adopt calendar option “A” as the 2007-08 school calendar.  The calendar will provide the best environment for student academic success with the opportunity for periodic breaks to keep staff and student morale as high as possible for optimum teaching and learning throughout the school year.
