A Summary of the September 21, 2006 Tyler ISD Board of Trustees Meeting


Financial Report Presented to the Board of Trustees
Tosha Bjork, Tyler ISD Director of Financial Services, presented the district status of the Financial Integrity Rating System of Texas (FIRST) report to the Board of Trustees. The latest district rating has earned the highest rating possible, the superior achievement rating.

Board Authorizes and Approves Demographic Study
The Board of Trustees approved Population and Survey Analysts (PASA) to provide a complete demographic study projecting student populations through 2017. The study will begin in January 2007 and be completed in July 2007. The demographic study will be paid for from the bond funds.

Board Authorizes and Approves Math Action Plan
The Board of Trustees approved the Mathematics Plan of Action for the 2006-2007 school year to begin this fall, 2006. The Trustees also authorized additional funding for Mathematics. This plan of action will be reevaluated in June 2007 and revised as needed, based upon the data from test scores and the analysis of all student groups in all grade levels and math courses.



Board Authorizes and Approves College Readiness Contract
The Board of Trustees approved the contract with The Princeton Review for increased college readiness for students. For the past two years, Tyler ISD has purchased materials and professional development from The Princeton Review to increase college readiness.

Facilities Department Provides Update on School Construction Projects
Project Managers Randy Rayford and Johnny Owens, with the Staubach Group (TSG), and Tim Loper, Tyler ISD Director of Facilities, provided the Board of Trustees an update on the progress of the school construction projects. Four elementary schools are under construction at this time (Austin, Bonner, Douglas, Jack). Peete Elementary is in the design stage with construction to begin in November. The following updates were given for each construction site:

EHRC Architects are approximately 85% complete on the design of Peete Elementary.

Jack Elementary will be completed in November as scheduled. Douglas Elementary has made great strides in the construction phase with structural steel erection underway from the south to north of the two story classroom wing. Austin and Bonner elementary schools are on time in their construction phrases.

Loper also notified the Board of Trustees that the projects at Bell and Ramey are in the punch list stage and he hopes to close out the Bell and Ramey elementary projects by the end of October.
